Dissidia Duellem: Release (& Rikku)

Alright, Dissidia Duellum is out now! Similar to my first post about it, I’m sticking to my guns — I’m probably not going to play the game. But I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on all the cool stuff that comes out of it: possible new alternate costumes, fresh official artwork, fan art, and hopefully some new merchandise (Terra statue in that outfit, please!).

With that said, there was a recent update on upcoming new characters, and I’m excited to talk about one in particular. Guess who?

Rikku is in the house! Well… eventually!

She’s not playable right from the start, but she’s officially announced. While she isn’t the FFX-2 Rikku I was really hoping for, it’s still Rikku! She has her classic FFX hairstyle and weapon, which is nice.

Her “ghost” form is a pretty odd choice, though. The color scheme and the design of her top feel like a heavy homage to Paine from FFX-2. She’s wearing her usual short skirt, but there’s very little (if any) nod to her FFX-2 Thief Dressphere.

I’m a bit disappointed, but extra skins could still come later — if the game lasts long enough to get that kind of support.

Oh yeah. Clive from FFXVI was also announced, but who cares about him?

I'll eventually learn to love how Rikku's new outfit is more, and I'm sure that this game will eventually reach the point where skins are part of the daily goodies. It is a gatcha game, so alternate outfits are a must.

Imagine if Gaia, Rinoa, and Terra all went to the same high school. Won't that be something?

Again, I'm not sure what the idea is of making Dissidia into a mobile game. Not sure if this will get anywhere, but I am at least hopeful that we might get more things from this game in terms of fan art, alternate outfits, and hopefully, some merch for Terra and Rikku. One can always hope.
