Funko POP: Kotu

What can I say except… another POP review! Yes, that’s right — it’s a Kakamora named Kotu, one of the coconut humanoids from Moana. So without further ado, let’s take a look at this POP, shall we?

While the Kakamora were definitely in the first Moana, Kotu didn't actually appear until Moana 2 as one of the crew members who helped Moana in that forgettable sequel. So, yeah, this wave is wrong in that aspect.

Honestly, this character’s POP version looks a lot like his normal self. Kotu’s head (like all Kakamora) is basically his body — coconut-shaped and all. Funko managed to sculpt the little details that come with him: the skeletal mask, the shark teeth, all of it present. I especially love the way that mask looks on him. There isn’t much to complain about beyond praising the accuracy and how well the POP captures every intricate detail Kotu has.

There isn’t a whole lot to say about the pose either. He’s just standing there. Not a bad choice at all, since it lets collectors really see the details.

The colors and paint execution are solid too. From what I remember of Kotu, it’s pretty accurate. No paint defects or sloppy bleeding, so Funko did their job here.

There’s nothing wrong with Kotu — nothing too complex, but nothing really wrong either. All in all, it’s a good POP. I gifted this one to my girlfriend and she likes it, so that’s a win. It’s a bit above mediocre, even if the character itself doesn’t do a ton for me. I loved the first Moana, but I can’t even remember the second well enough to say anything strongly positive or negative about it. Still, the POP itself is good enough.
Until Next Time!
