Beast Wars! We're back! Yeah, this is a bit of an odd addition to my POP collection, right? Well, yes and no. I was a huge fan of Beast Wars when it first came out, and I had some of the old toys. I fell off during the Transmetal stage, but fell off and tried to pick it back up during the Beast Machines, and loathed that direction. For me, nothing beats the original Beast Wars. So with that said, let's maximize and get right into the review, shall we? Maximize!

This is an awesome wave! Yes, I have all four! Yes, that's right.

I am a fan of the original Transformers, but I wouldn't say I know enough to engage in a full-on nerd conversation. Of course, I like Optimus Prime, and honestly, seeing a gorilla version of him with that same familiar face of his was a joy when I first saw it for Beast Wars. I love the organic mixed in with his robotic designs, the chest piece, the arms, feet, and obviously, the shotgun popping out of his forearms. These are all present and sculpted well with this POP. That chest piece is awesome, by the way! The shotgun on his forearms could be a bit more detailed, but I'll take it since they did decide to add it. Now, the headpiece! That's the bread and butter! He looks EXACTLY like his counterpart! Love the way that he is sculpted to the tee to resemble Optimus Primal as he was in the show. The familiar 'earpiece' sticking out, the red eyes, the forehead design, and the signature Primal mouth! It's just a win all the way in the sculpting department!

The pose could be improved slightly. While the neutral stance is far from being a terrible choice, I would've gone with Optimus in a bit of a battle pose with his shotgun arm pointing straight forward. But this one is fine. It allows the collector to appreciate the sculptwork and the designs. Not complaining all too much.

There is only one complaint on my end: the gorilla fur could've been darker since Optimus Primal had a darker shade to him. Primal's POP version has a medium shaded grey, which isn't 100% accurate. Still, everything else is as good as can be in plastic form, and that's not a bad thing! Love that glossier look on Optimus' head, some areas have the same kind of shine, but not a ton. Love the hint of white, trey, and red throughout. I'd say that Funko did an amazing job replicating Big Bot's color scheme.

"Well that's just PRIME."
The CGI is pretty old school, but the music and the story still hold up. The dynamic between the characters is golden.

Beast Wars will always be dear to my heart, and Optimus Primal is my favorite character. This POP checked a lot of the boxes, so I'll definitely recommend it. For anyone who loved the old show and appreciated what it did to the Transformers lore, I'd say this POP is a good addition. Let's see how the rest of the set holds up.
Until Next Time!
