Here's another POP to add to my collection! A Marvel Zombies POP and another from Marvel Collector Corps! And yes, another gifted POP. With all that said, let's get into the review then, shall we?
There's a gruesome enticement that comes with these POPs and the series altogether. Not sure if I'm going to snag any more of the Zombies other than the ones I've been gifted but we'll see. Let's just get on with the rest of the figurine.
Mysterio looks good, I'll say that much. Not sure if I'll pull the trigger on him though.
Let's talk about Red Skull for a moment. He's kind of an odd villain for me. He's hard to really like and keep in the forefront of my mind because he comes off as the, and I use this term/comparison loosely, he comes off to me as the Joker of Captain America. He's a mastermind, often without the super strength to match Captain America's brute strength, and inferior fighting skills, but has all the capable qualities of a leader. Also, that red skull of his is iconic. How does all that translate to a Marvel Zombies POP, well, I think it just captures the essence of the undead with the aesthetics of Red Skull. He is posed as a walking dead, dragging himself towards his next meal. A perfect look, for sure. The other thing is that I love the sculpted details his large skull head has. The head and face itself are done with attention to detail, the outfit he has looks as organic as can be, and overall, there is plenty to like.
My only real complaint with this POP is the green paint that is supposed to represent Red Skull's zombie blood. It doesn't look very convincing. Other than that though, the choice used for his skull I really like. Red Skull's skull is often in a deep and bold red color but since he is undead, it's showing some strains in his 'skin color'. The paint job on the mouth and the shadowing here and there gives the head far more depth. Also, the uniform is nicely done. Minor complaint from me but overall job well done.
Look at that hole! That is clean through this guy's body!
I won't sit here and say that it's a must-have but for me, it's more of a plus to have than not. I like the details with the sculpt, and the pose, the colors are mostly convincing, not to mention, that I don't have a Red Skull POP. I also can't complain since it's a gift from a good friend.
