Funko POP: Jubilee (X-Men '97)

One day, I’m finally going to finish the first season of X-Men ’97—there’s just so much good stuff in it. A lot happens, too, including Jubilation Lee getting her “vampire” costume in the show. Lo and behold, we ended up getting a POP of it! Is it any good? Let’s find out.

This is actually a good-looking wave. Doubt I'll finish it, but Bastion, Nightcrawler, and Storm are characters I may want in my collection. Just gotta find them for a good price.

Immediately, it’s easy to spot Jubilee’s trademark glasses and yellow trench coat. Everything else in this costume is a slick black one-piece with some zippers, which takes away from the vibrant, spunky look Jubilee is known for. Despite my gripe with her more conservative costume, this is still a well-done POP, especially with the detailed sculpting on the trench coat. I particularly appreciate the wrinkles created by the illusion of the coat dancing in the wind.
The special effects on her hand could be more fireworks-like rather than the current multicolored bubble effect. While I understand what they’re meant to represent, sparks and bursts of energy would have looked much better. Everything else about her is solid—the hair, the glasses—and overall, it’s not a bad sculpted POP.

Her pose is very Jubilee-like, albeit a bit more restrained. She’s showing off her mutant powers, striking that signature spunky stance, and her coat has a nice sense of motion to it. All in all, it’s a solid design.

The colors are just fine, starting with that yellow trench coat. It’s very vibrant and serves as a great contrast to the all-black bodysuit. The multicolored energy bursts add a nice juxtaposition, and I really like the translucent plastic used for them.
Her bodysuit isn’t completely devoid of color either—the zipper, pockets, and touches of pink help break things up. There’s also subtle shadowing on the black suit so it doesn’t look as plain as it could have. And the glasses! The pink lenses with that light-glare effect look great.
All in all, Jubilation Lee’s color scheme is well executed. No complaints from me.

A closer look at the finer details with Jubilee!

I would love to see a good live-action version of Jubilee. Would love to see her relationship with Logan. Or, heck, maybe with Laura Kinney. POP Laura Kinney right next to this Jubilee looks pretty legit.
Love those outfits above! Much preferred!

While I’d prefer a classic Jubilee—or maybe her more modern outfit—in POP form, there are still some good things that came out of this release. I’d say it’s a solid addition to anyone’s X-Men POP collection, or even a POP collection in general.
That said, I am curious if anyone out there has a Jubilee-focused collection. I’ve seen it done for The Thing (trying to find a link), so it wouldn’t surprise me.
Anyway, I recommend it.
Until Next Time!
