A Bishoujo coming in hot! It's none other than the southern belle herself, Rogue! What a perfect time to get this 'sugah' in the blog too! Very excited for this one for many reasons. My special awesome friend (you know who you are) is a big fan of Rogue and not to mention, this is also a special character for another friend (more on that). Without further adieu though, let's get on this review, shall we?
The Bishoujo box remains the same as it has been for some time now. It does serve a purpose though, for sure. It shows promotional art along with Shunya Yamashita's art that the statue is based on. The window allows one to see most of the figure so all in all, Kotobukiya can keep the same box since it does the job just fine.
Here she is! In full glory! Full transparency, Rogue isn't my go-to X-Gal but I will say she's in the top ten. Her role in the X-Men Animated series back in the 90s cemented herself for me and I'm sure the same can be said for the many out there who are X-Men fans. She's got a pretty memorable attitude and her powersets are something to envy.
Getting Rogue in a proper position isn't as easy as one would think. Rogue--from plain sight, really has run-in-the-mill superpowers: flight, super strength, durability, and faster-than-average speed. But she has her power absorption mutant powers. The way Rebirth Rogue did it is something I can appreciate. The pose, the base, and the details paint a picture. I love her confident stance and the expression of bone claws, implying that she may touched Logan or Laura. Her base, like I talked about, tells more about her powers. It's made of ice, Bobby Drake's (Iceman) signature mutant power. Then, of course, Remy's cards. Well done in that department. I'm impressed.
Her outfit has the wrinkles, the strain, and the 'implied' movements. Something that Kotobukiya is consistent with when it comes to their Bishoujo line.
As usual, Bishoujo does a fine job showing organic and detailed hair movements. It really adds dynamic and depth to their statues. It is a shame that Bishoujo dropped the 'transparent tips'. I don't think it's coming back either.
The missing translucent tips aside, the coloring is spot on. The choice of paint and plastic complement each other quite a bit. I love the black shading all over her tights, the yellow is vibrant but not overtly too bright. The brown, a really good illusion of leather especially with those folds on her jacket and boots. The red "X" on her shoulders is present and discreet, but it is accurate to Rogue. They also got her hair just right with the brown and white clashing against each other. The skin is fair and the face is also done well. Truly, it's hard to get a Bishoujo with quality issues--they exist but they're very rare. Again, Bishoujo wins the color department.
There is something to really admire about this work. Her clothes have a lot of small details, like her tights having that 'protective' look. The jacket has the straps and the buckles. It's not the craziest posed Bishoujo, but Rogue still gets the details and love from Kotobukiya.
The claws are bone and the way it's sculpted shows.
All the wrinkles, the belts, the straps, that red logo. It's well done. Definitely, some clothes are straining against Rogue's... form.
Rogue's classic signature belt hanging around her waist quite loosely.
Other than showing off the wrinkles in Rogue's boots, this is a close look at the base dedicated to Iceman and Gambit. The details on the ice are just well done and I'm glad there's a little piece of ice protruding to the side. The cards are also detailed so really no complaint here.
Here are some of my other Bishoujo X-Women in my collection. Sadly, in this blog, only X-Force Psylocke got a 2.0 review. I'm not sure if I can get to X-23 and Jubilee, but at least I am getting the chance to showcase them.
Beyond being an amazing Bishoujo statue, this is also a bit of an homage to a good friend who passed about a year ago. Lathiira (miss you bud) really loved Rogue. Funny enough, I put my preorder in before his untimely passing, and I got it earlier this year Just took me a bit to review her but Lat, this figurine is awesome. I'm sure you would've enjoyed her.
I haven't touched a Bishoujo in a LONG time. Space, time, money, and I was not exactly in that same mentality when I was heavy into this series. I have to be selective for those reasons. But Rogue was a must. I never got Rogue 1.0 and I'm glad I waited until Rebirth. I'm so happy I did. I love the showcase of her powers, the pose, the details, the coloring, all of that. Will she crack the top three for the Statues of the Year? Not sure but I do believe she has a strong chance. I do recommend her though. With the popularity of X-Men '97 and the resurgence of mutant love, I don't see a reason to pass her up if one is a collector and is a big fan of Rogue. I truly enjoy having her and Lat, I hope you enjoyed this review as much as I adore this statue.
Until Next Time!
