Another Pokémon Soft Color from 2025’s catches! Bulbasaur—one of the original starter Pokémon from before a bajillion other species were introduced. This one was a special gift for a special friend who’s collecting all the basic Pokémon, along with the Soft Color variants. With that said, let’s get into the review and see how this one turned out.

Leaf element? Plant-based? Not entirely knowledgeable about how the elements of Pokémon go, but Bulbasaur isn't the only plant-based Pokémon.

Clearly not a bobblehead

Bulbasaur is a base form, so he’s just cute. I’m not sure how anyone can take this guy seriously without wanting to hug him, but hey—he is used to fight other Pokémon, so there’s that. The POP version absolutely nails accuracy with all the right details. The adorable head doesn’t look overly stylized, mainly because Bulbasaur’s head was already gigantic to begin with, and the shape is spot on. The little spots are all sculpted in rather than painted, giving them a slight raised texture, and the body has a smooth finish that fits Bulbasaur’s simple design. The bulb on his back is nicely done, with layered sculpting that resembles a flower still closed up before it eventually blooms. All in all, he looks just like his anime and game counterpart and ends up being a very well-sculpted POP.

Bulbasaur's pose isn't too dynamic, but it's not terrible or out of place for what this Pokémon would be doing. It's perfect, nothing to complain about.

Loving that bright green on the bulb. As for the rest of Bulbasaur, the main gimmick of this POP is the soft color palette, so we’re not getting a fully screen-accurate version of the Pokémon, but rather a toned-down, pastel-like take on it. That said, it still feels accurate within that softer color approach. There are no quality issues on my copy, and the paint is clean throughout, so I’m pretty happy with it.

So you're taking care of an animal and a plant if you get this Pokémon on your side.

These are all the soft color Pokémon POPs in her collection thus far. They look so adorable together, don't they?

Much like the other Soft Colored Pokémon POPs, Bulbasaur stays true to the original sculpt, with the color scheme being the only real deviation. It’s accurate to the character, well sculpted, and there are no defects on the copy my friend got, so all in all, it’s an easy recommendation. With the second forms of these Pokémon coming out this year, and the base form already being a win, I’d say the chances of picking up Ivysaur, Venusaur, and the like are pretty high. Yes, my favorite person is definitely going to get treated.

Until Next Time!
