Well I know nothing about Stranger Things. And truth to be told, this POP ain't even mine! But I thought it looked cool so here we are with a review of it! Let's take a look at this POP and see what got me to buy it, eh?
So Scoops Ahoy is an ice cream brand within the Stranger Things universe. I didn't know that. So this specific Demogorgon is colored to match the ice cream color. The normal color of the Demogorgon isn't as.... friendly. Since this is a gift, the person receiving it definitely prefers a friendly version of this creature.
The creature's design is pretty distinct even without familiarity with the series. Though admittedly, I mistook this creature as an enhanced Clicker from The Last of Us until I learned about Stranger Things. So with that said, as a POP, the stylized proportions of POP aren't as prominent but the gigantic head allows the menacing flower-like head to be a bit more obvious. The details are amazing! Those... erm... teeth, colored in harmless bright colors, definitely look like they'd do some serious damage. I love the work put into the textures and it's consistent throughout the POP. I love the grotesque hands and feet and that humanoid but gangly body still looks as menacing even if it's a POP. Great work on the pose, which is fairly neutral but allows for the POP's details to be showcased. Well done on this, Funko.
The colors are amazing. I do like the brighter tone that tries to subdue the aggressive nature of this creature. Again, I do not know the show but I'm assuming the Demogorgon is an imposing threat. The colors all meld together and the transition between each paint does a really fine job to make it look very organic. I'm sure this isn't for everyone but for what it is trying to do, I'd say it's done a good job.
It's a good POP with plenty of good details. The color are also well done and to make a creature look somewhat kid-friendly is an amazing accomplishment. Reccomend? Fans of the show I'd say yes but the colors may not be sought after as much as the original. I'd still say it's got some good work put behind it so that can be appreciated for any fans of the show and/or POP collectors.
Until Next Time!
