My Hero Academia’s final season aired not too long ago, but we only just finished it this year. Bittersweet, but ultimately a fitting ending that gave solid closure to an anime we’ve been following for about two years now.
Along the way, we’ve picked up plenty of POPs from the anime—and honestly, we might even end up completing Class 1-A someday. For now, though, I picked up Tokoyami last year and am finally getting around to reviewing him. So let’s get into it and see how this POP turned out.

This is actually a pretty solid wave—lots of important characters, and I do have one of them. Truth be told, I picked up Fumikage for a pretty good price, so that’s a win-win. The box was a bit beat up, but I’m not too worried about that.

Tokoyami has a very distinct look—and it’s all in the head. Literally. His body is fairly average, but that bird-like head, a result of his mutation (yes, I’m using that term for an MHA character), is what really sets him apart. Add to that his sentient shadow, fittingly named Dark Shadow, and you get a character capable of flight, combat, and radiating pure brooding energy.
His POP manages to capture all of that in one go. Naturally, the head draws the most attention thanks to Funko’s jumbo proportions, and the details are all there—the beak, the feathered shape, everything looks on point. The rest of his body is handled with the same level of care, and the added detail on Dark Shadow acting as extra arms is especially nice. Honestly, I have no real complaints in this department.

One of the things I really appreciate about this Tokoyami POP is the pose. Since flight became one of Tokoyami’s standout abilities in Season 5, the figure makes sure to highlight that. The stand does a lot of the work here, keeping him suspended in midair.
The pose is accurate and dynamic, with Dark Shadow’s hands spread wide and Tokoyami’s cloak swooshing behind him like a cape in flight. Overall, it’s a great-looking POP, and the pose really elevates the figure.

This POP is dominantly black, but the proper peppering of brighter colors gives it some much-needed depth. Tokoyami’s fair skin and Dark Shadow’s color design stay faithful to the anime.
There is some minor paint bleed on his arms, so it’s not perfect. That said, the way Dark Shadow is handled—the purple lines cutting through the void of his arms and face—looks great. Overall, the execution is strong enough that I’m willing to look past the flaws. No real complaints here.

No, he is not throwing a Sonic Boom. He is flying.

Tsukuyomi showed very little to no interest when it comes to the ladies of Class 1-A (or maybe I missed that arc).

These four are constantly regarded as the top combatants of Class 1-A, and I can’t argue with that. The Jet Black Hero is pretty awesome, and Dark Shadow’s powers escalate even further when nighttime comes into play. Seeing Midoriya, Bakugo, Todoroki, and Tokoyami in POP form side by side is always a nice sight.

This guy is a must in my collection—especially since I found him for a very cheap price. With a solid pose, accurate details, and simple but spot-on coloring, this is an easy recommendation. If you’re aiming to complete Class 1-A, he’s a must-have. After finally finishing My Hero Academia this year, it only felt right to pick up one of my favorite characters in POP form.
Until Next Time!
