Time to add another Pokémon POP into my Special Friend's collection! This time around, we have Ivysaur, the second form of Bulbasaur! I told my friend we are going to complete her basic G1 Pokémon POPs, and I meant it! So here's Ivysaur! Let's review this one, shall we?

The first mid-form I am reviewing (if memory serves). Raichu has been in my household, but isn't mine.

Truth be told, Ivysaur’s shape, proportions, and most of its details aren’t too different from Bulbasaur. He has the same spots (for the most part), a similar body shape — albeit a bit bigger — more developed ears, and slightly more prominent canines. Of course, you can’t miss the flower that has now fully sprouted from his back. It’s not a fully bloomed flower like it will eventually become, but it’s much more pronounced than in its first form.
This POP captures all of those details really well. I love the differences between the two evolutions, and they did a particularly fine job on that sprouting flower on his back.

It’s a very neutral pose, and honestly, it’s more than good enough to showcase all the sculptwork on Ivysaur. Sure, he could’ve been in a more dynamic or attacking pose, but I’m not looking for that with these Pokémon POPs (that’s for later reviews).
Ivysaur looks great overall, and the sculptwork does him justice.

I like the difference between the soft colors and the standard colors. The standard version is a bit more vibrant and clearly closer to how we usually see these Pokémon. Ivysaur looks very accurate overall, and I especially love how they made the flower on its back stand out with that red-orange color. My Special Friend’s copy also doesn’t have any glaring paint defects, so zero complaints from me.

He's not intimidating, but he isn't as jovial-looking as Bulbasaur.

Putting these two next to each other is just an awesome sight. Again, Bulbasaur is softer colored, but it makes sense that the next evolution is a bit more defined in color.

It’s an easy recommendation for anyone collecting Pokémon and completing the evolutions. Ivysaur isn’t going to surprise anyone with what it comes with, but it looks really good visually. The sculpt is accurate, and as the middle stage before Venusaur, he feels like a must-have for the line. My Special Friend is happy with this POP, and so am I!
Until Next Time!
