This is my Girlfriend's POP! Her Disney characters vary from the obscure to the popular Disney properties. I'd definitely say that Oliver & Company was one of those Disney movies that belongs in the obscure category since not a lot of folks talk about it. Glad they are getting some POPs because this movie is part of Disney's footnote within the animated media. So let's take a look at how Dodger w/ Oliver POP came out, shall we?

There are only two in this set, and they came in duos. Not entirely sure if she would like both, but this one she really wanted.

Disney went through a phase where the majority of their animated movies centered around animals. Films like The Aristocats, 101 Dalmatians, Bambi, and of course Oliver & Company are just a few examples. As far as the movie these two characters come from, it’s not one of the most well-known Disney films featuring our four-legged friends, but it does have a pretty catchy song I still remember fondly. Funko has gotten pretty good at replicating animals while giving them the classic POP proportion treatment. Dodger has all the little details that make him instantly recognizable — the red scarf around his neck, the folded ears, and more. Overall, he’s sculpted quite well.

He is posed to stand there neutral, and honestly, that's fine. Dodger is a dog, so this pose is just fine. We get to see some of the sculpwork and all the other nuances with this canine POP.

His colors are just fine. It looks like Dodger from the movie with the caramel colors on his face, dark brown for his ears and spots, and his body mostly white. Pretty accurate from his Disney movie portrayal all in all. No complaints.

The classic Oliver Twist character is reimagined as an adorable and innocent tabby cat. As far as animated cats go, Oliver looks the part, and there aren’t a ton of nuanced details that make him overly complex. Funko translated his features into POP form quite nicely. He’s tiny — not quite a full-sized common POP, but not small enough to be a bitty either. Truth be told, Dodger is the main figure, but he’s also a bit small for a standard common, so pairing him with a smaller Oliver is a smart way to avoid charging full price. Still, you can look at this POP and immediately recognize Oliver from the Disney movie.

Oliver is sitting down like a cat, and his POP is sculpted well to replicate a feline sitting down, relaxing. No complaints here.

Oliver is mostly a one-tone POP with his tabby coloring. Of course, he has brown stripes, pink inner ears, a white snout, and so on. But there’s this strange goo-like substance on his face that dried up and just looks really odd. I’m not sure what kind of paint defect that is, but it’s pretty jarring. If you want a clean copy of Oliver, be sure to check closely before buying — it’s not easy to spot through the box since he’s so tiny.

Here are two duo animal POPs of Dodger and Oliver next to another 'duo': Figaro and Cleo. The 'domesticated' animal POPs are a bit on the smaller side, so the pairing gimmick usually works well.

If anything else, I'm sure a lot of people have heard of this song. Catchy as heck!

Despite my girlfriend’s copy having that weird thing on Oliver’s face, it’s still a good POP overall. Adorable, to say the least. For fans of the movie, this set should hit the nostalgia notes hard. They look like the characters; they’re well sculpted and accurate. No major complaints from me.

Until Next Time!
