Funko POP: X-Men '97 (Collector Corps)

Another collector corps! This time around we are going to be looking at an X-Men-based theme and I'm all for it! X-Men '97 reached some heights so here we are with more POP based on X-Men characters! Let's take a look at this box, shall we?

This is a joint collection with my special friend. So, yes, this isn't 100% mine but we share because we truly care! Yes, that's how special we are.

The Collector Corps comes with a cool shirt, a pin, and a sticker. And since this is the X-Men, this does make the nerd of me happy. I love the Wolverine pin and the sticker X-Logo is quite nice.

Let's start with Jean Grey. Just right off the get-go, this Jean has her ponytail so safe to assume it ain't Madelyn Pryor.

A good but incomplete wave, at least based on the promotional POPs in the box. One day, perhaps, that Cyclops will join his lover!

Yes, she is a bobblehead.

I do like Jean Grey's costume during this era. Now it's not the best-looking outfit, mind you, but it is classic. Her pose isn't my favorite since I usually picture Jean with having a hand on her head, floating, or fainting due to heavy distress (this isn't Phoenix, okay?). Also, no special telekinetic energy so it got some points deducted. But as far as the sculpting work, it's done quite well. I like the details in her hair, and her proportions, though stylized to cater to POP style, they're done quite right. Her hair has some sculpting involved so all in all, this department is well done. The stand that she has is more fitting for a hovering/floating pose but for the sake of stability, this is appreciated.

Love the work on her ponytail. Also, that stand is going to ensure the figure stays upright.

I love the coloring for this POP. The shadowing all over the POP tries to mimic X-Men '97's aesthetics and works. The color choices and the execution of the paint are all well done.

Hoping to get a Phoenix POP one day. It would look good next to these two. Jean Grey looks good next to Dark Phoenix.

I feel like this is a mix of the Blue and Gold teams. Yes, I do have some X-Men POPs. And this isn't all of them.

Jean Grey is a win for me. The pose isn't something that will fully represent the character but is not atrocious. A recommend, for sure.

On to Rogue now! The Southern Belle X-Man is as feisty and sassy as they come! The first Rogue POP for me so let's take a look at this, shall we?

I swear I took a picture of the Rogue box from the back. Guess I didn't. Well, it's all the same anyways except for a half pic of the Rogue POP.

She is a bobblehead!

I like this pose for Rogue. She's a flying character so it would be the best idea to give her a flying pose! Glad this POP of hers complies with that idea. Not too dynamic, but it does imply that she's about to punch a Sentinel in the face. One of these days, I think Funko would do better with adding some special effects to their flight-posed characters, but that means the price will increase, so it's a double-edged sword. But the sculpting details are present and well done. I appreciate the work on her hair and the attention to Rogue's iconic 90s costume.

Oddly, Rogue seems to not have gotten the 'animated wash' that Jean Grey got. No cartoon-esque shadowing or anything like that. But I will say that they did a good job here. The colors are pretty solid. The most noticeable for me is the transition between the white hair and the brunette strands. The rest of her outfit is pretty cleanly done as well. Not a lot of glaring paint wash or misses.

Again, the Blue & Gold X-Men team are lost on me. I do know that these lovely mutants have worked together a few more times in saving the world.

I do like Rogue. I appreciate the flight pose, the sculpting work, and the paint job (despite missing some animated shadowing work). A solid POP and I'd say it's even one I'd get solo if I never received this Collector Corps gift. A recommendation, for sure.

Another amazing addition to our growing collection in terms of POPs. The Collector Corps box is also amazing with the shirt, pin, and stickers. Even though it's my second one, I am confident that if it's the right set and proper merch, the 'blind box' set gimmick can have some major ups. I'm very happy that my good friend managed to snag this one for us! Thank you!

Until Next Time!
