RIP James Earl Jones

Updated: Sep 15

A legend. We lost a legend—a man who was a huge part of my childhood. The man was in Coming to America, Best of the Best, Star Wars, Lion King... to name a few. But I definitely will remember him the best as Coach Couzo and Mufasa. The man passed away yesterday and the news devastated me.

Lion King is one of my all-time favorite Disney movies (yes, that's right). I remember watching it over and over again. I had the major feels during Mufasa's death and while Mufasa's message didn't fully hit until I was older, I do remember listening and getting inspired by a King so wise, and a father so loving, and a warrior who dedicated his life to his family--to his son.

There's a lot of heavy feeling when this song plays.

Then there's his role as Anakin, better known as Darth Vader. I was never a major Star Wars fan, ya know? But I know Darth Vader. But who doesn't understand the importance of Darth Vader?

Best of the Best. His speeches and lines can only be delivered by HIM, and ONLY him. Classic quotes that my friends and I repeated during late-night shenanigans.

"So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you... and so will I."

How do I honor a man who had a prominent role in a good portion of my childhood? This man has no idea how many lives he touched with his voice--not to mention, that he was a good presence in any movements he was in. And while I haven't watched many of his movies, the ones I have had the honor to see, I wholeheartedly can say that I was moved.

Thank you, Mufasa--the Lion King.

That's the best way for me to honor him. To be grateful. May you rest in peace.

See you Next Time
