Funko POP: Scarlet Spider (Swinging) - Funko Exclusive
Another Scarlet Spider?! Yes. If I haven’t said it before, Ben Reilly is one of my favorite Spider-Men. His original 90s Scarlet Spider costume will always be a favorite of mine, so whenever they release a POP of that suit, I pay attention. Here we are with a new one — let’s review it.
I'm gonna keep asking! Where is the 'Beyond Amazing' series? Why can't most Spider-Man POPs fall under that umbrella?
At this point we should all know the Scarlet Spider suit pretty well. Once again, Funko managed to make an accurate version. Everything about the design screams classic Ben Reilly, and for that I’m happy. That said, I’m a bit disappointed by how compact this POP looks. Maybe his head sits too close to his body? The webbing also looks a bit too thick, which throws me off a little.
Most of the jumping or web-slinging Spider-Man POPs I own usually hit the mark with their poses. This Scarlet Spider feels slightly off. It might be the head placement, but something about it just doesn’t look completely natural. It’s not terrible — it just doesn’t feel as dynamic as it could.
The coloring uses that 90s-style shadowing gimmick. From the front it’s pretty consistent and makes him look like he could fit in both Across the Spider-Verse and the comics. Unfortunately, a lot of that flair disappears when you turn him around. Unlike the other Scarlet Spider that uses a similar effect, the missing spider logo on the back and the way the pose blocks natural shadowing make the rear view look pretty bland.
He looks like a brooder, let me tell you.
Not that it's necessary, but it would be cool to see them release a 90s Bagley 'vanilla' Spider-Man POP. Would mix well with all Scarlet Spider and all the 90s Spider-Man characters.
Sadly, this swinging POP is my least favorite out of all of them.

Yeah… I’d say this is one of the rarer POPs that left me genuinely disappointed. It’s been a while since I’ve felt that way about a POP. Because it’s a Scarlet Spider (and much like the black suit, I feel like I have to collect them all), I’m still keeping it. For everyone else though, out of the three Scarlet Spider POPs I own, this is the one I’d say isn’t really needed. Shame.
Even with all that, I’m still glad to have it in the collection. It’s not a complete loss. The front shadowing and color still help it stand out a bit. If you can get past the slightly “dwarfed” look, it can still add something to a Spider-Verse display.
