Funko POP: Venom (Maryjane)

I never thought I’d find myself saying Mary Jane is Venom in a sentence. But why am I so shocked? This is Marvel and the multiverse possibilities we’re talking about. Funny thing is, Mary Jane as Venom wasn’t even a multiverse event — it was main-universe canon. I know, I know… comics. Anyway, here’s a POP of Ms. Watson as Venom. Let’s see how this one holds up despite all the baggage of that run.

This was a 'rare' piece's gimmick. Funny, I didn't have a hard time snagging one.

This isn’t exactly a fan-favorite run for a lot of people. I don’t know a whole lot about it myself — I just saw Mary Jane as Venom one day, and now we have the POP. That said, it’s a solid Venom figure. It has the mass, the big open mouth with the teeth and tongue, and the design details that come with this version. It’s not the more feminine take some people might expect from an MJ Venom; this one leans closer to a classic-looking Venom. The sculpt is clean overall, and I don’t have any real complaints there.

She’s web-slinging, she has webbing in hand, and she looks ready for a fight. The open mouth is such an iconic Venom pose that I’m glad they kept hers open. A little extra sculpt of green ooze or something coming off the tongue and teeth might’ve sold the intimidation factor more, but it still looks good. I’m not even sure if the green saliva is more of a Brock thing than an MJ thing, but it doesn’t hurt the figure.

Accurate and cleanly done. The gold spider emblem, the eyes, and the gold accents on the hands all look sharp against the black. No complaints on the paint.

All different versions of MJ. Technically, the married MJ is multiverse now since One More Day took it all away. Of course, Spinneret is a variant. Next to her other counterparts, this Venom POP really stands out.

Maryjane's got some serious bulkiness to her. Standing next to classic Eddie Brock Venom and hulking Marvel Rivals Venom, looks like she can hold her own!

Multiverse! Venomverse! There is such a thing... I don't want to get into it though.

I'm not sure who would win here, but I might have to say Gwen since she still has her spider powers without the Carnage symbiote (I think).

By the time Maryjane got the Symbiote, it's pretty much gone through a lot of personality changes, and it's pretty calm and communicative when the former Supermodel is wearing it. Parker, on the other hand, had some issues.

This is a decent Venom POP that happens to be Mary Jane under the symbiote. The sculpt and pose do the classic Venom look well enough, and the colors are clean. I’m not the biggest fan of that particular run, but as a figure it holds up. If you’re collecting different Venom hosts or just like the design, it’s not a bad one to have on the shelf.
Until Next Time!
