Funko POP: Spirit-Spider

I swear, this Spider-Man variant got shafted by keeping his original name, since Gwen Stacy couldn’t use “Spider-Gwen” or “Spider-Woman.” Well, let’s just call him Spirit-Spider then, since Marvel wants to be weird about it. Oh yeah! This POP! Let’s review — I promise it’s a good one!
The "Spirit-Spider" skin was part of the original Spider-Man PS4 game. That was an amazing game, no pun intended.
Spirit-Spider looks more like a Ghost Rider variant than a traditional Spider-Man. That flaming skull head is one of Ghost Rider’s most iconic features, so sticking it on another character immediately screams “Spirits of Vengeance.”
Maybe that’s why they leaned into that moniker for this version? Regardless, the design goes hard on the horror and supernatural side rather than the usual Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man vibe. His suit looks almost like skin, with this taut, ripped appearance from the chest down that exposes the musculature, while the head is a full-on flaming skull. The overall design is awesome in its simplicity. The POP does a great job capturing all of that. There’s a rough texture that really sells the look, and the way the flames are sculpted coming out of his head combined with that scowling skeletal face makes him look genuinely amazing.
Spirit-Spider’s pose isn’t anything particularly grand or dynamic. Since he’s a spider-person, an acrobatic pose wouldn’t have been out of character, but this one still works. It actually leans a bit more into Ghost Rider territory, and honestly, I’m not going to dock points for it because I like it.
I love the blue hues used on his flames, arms, and legs. The black spider emblem contrasts really well against the white body, and overall he looks pretty accurate to his comic book counterpart. With the combination of some nice color shading, clean paint application, and solid color choices, this one is an easy win in the paint department.
It also has the glow-in-the-dark gimmick, and it looks spectacular. I’ve found myself really drawn to POPs that use this feature well — especially when the glow makes sense and is bright. Spirit-Spider definitely delivers here.
A vastly different Spider-Man, right?
It's a shame that Spirit-Spider didn't make it for the Spider-Man 2 game as a skin.

Evil version of Spider-Man. He can be a cosmic clone, a clone turned evil due to all the bad things he's gone through, or simply a variant without Spidey's morals.
That's right! He fits in here more than being a Spider-Man.
He does have an aura to him, doesn't he? He looked especially neat in the Spider-Man PS4 game!
A great look, solid sculpting, accurate paint apps, and a glow-in-the-dark effect that really shines. This is an easy recommendation for me. All of those winning formulas are also because of his design, which I truly like! Not sure if this variant will be everyone’s favorite, but for me, Spirit-Spider is a clear win! Until Next Time!
