Funko POP: Goku (SSJ 1st Apperance)

There's nothing more iconic and recognizable in anime than Goku turning Super Saiyan for the first time during the Frieza arc.

Funny enough, I do have one other POP in this lineup! That Majin-Vegeta looks pretty good, but honestly, I'm not sure if I'm going to pull the trigger for that.

This POP has one mission: to replicate the iconic moment when Goku first turned into a Super Saiyan. The ripped-up outfit, the simple but imposing stance, the blonde hair and green eyes, the energy exploding from him; all of these are present. And the details are awesome! The wrinkles and rips on his clothing all paint a picture of a fighter who has gone through hell and back. The muscles flexing and the energy behind him exploding all have a part to replicate that famous scene. Not to mention, he has his traditional Super Saiyan hair! And those angry brows! No complaints here! Goku looks awesome!

There's not a lot to say about his pose since it's a simple one. All they had to do was get Goku standing there, and they succeeded. Goku looks imposing and he looks like the Goku we knew at that one specific moment that lives on until today.

The only thing I have to say with this POP is that it does everything it can to remind us that you don't blow up Krillin. Translation? It looks like an anime moment. Everything came together. The clothing, the special energy effect, the blonde SSJ hair, all of it! Colors department on my copy is clean and honestly did its job.

SSJ2 Goku is down the road, but I feel like the Goku with the Kamehameha is the same Goku as the first appearance of SSJ Goku POP.

Oh, Gohan! What a fall from grace--thank god for Beast Gohan! But! Father and Son look good next to each other!

I keep talking about that moment, and there it is! I should show the anime version too!
That's definitely one of my top favorite moments in anime, not just DBZ!

Highly recommend. This was gifted to me by my special friend, and I love it to death! It's a must-have for Dragonball fans. If a DBZ/S fan is to get one POP to represent their love for the franchise, I'd say this is going to be in the top five, in my opinion. It's simple, but it's accessible. It's modern, but it still feels like a classic POP. Sometimes a POP doesn't have to have all the flares and all the glamour. It just has to have a moment, and it just has to be executed well. Do yourself a favor, love the person who gifts you this.
Until Next Time!
